About
For the curious person who wants to travel the world — even if no one is going with you.
Hi! I’m Mélina, the voice behind The Solo Voyager. I’m from Canada, and I’ve been travelling solo for the past two years. I guess you can say that I’m a digital nomad.
I created The Solo Voyager in 2026 to share what I wish I had known earlier: how to travel alone safely, how to move through new places without feeling lost, how to connect with people across cultures with confidence, and so much more…
So far, I speak English, French, and Spanish fluently, and I’m currently at an intermediate level in Korean. Language has truly become one of my favourite ways to connect wherever I am.
Why Solo Travel?
My first solo trip was to Mexico. My family was worried — mostly because of what they had seen in the news.
But that trip changed everything.
It was the first time I realized that the world feels very different outside of your comfort zone, and especially when you experience it by yourself. That’s when I fell in love with solo travel.
However, before almost every trip, I still think: “Why am I doing this alone?”
Then I arrive at the destination. I meet other travellers from around the world. I talk to locals. I navigate unfamiliar streets, and I create memories that only exist because I chose to go despite the fear.
Every time, I’m grateful I didn’t wait for someone else to go with me. And I want to help you experience that for yourself.
What Is The Solo Voyager For?
This blog isn’t about luxury travel or extreme backpacking. It’s about learning how to feel comfortable in new environments, meeting new people, learning foreign languages and building confidence one experience at a time.
All the writing and photos on this website are my own.
If you want to travel solo but feel unsure, hesitant, or don’t know where to start — you’re exactly where you need to be.
The Solo Voyager is about building confidence to explore on your own — whether that means crossing the world or eating at a restaurant by yourself.
